Planning for A Cozy and Intimate Thanksgiving
This year we are planning on keeping our Thanksgiving intimate and cozy and enjoying just being together. So instead of decorating our large dining room table like I normally do, I decided to create our Thanksgiving tablescape on our sweet little kitchen table.
Our table fits the 6 people in our family comfortably and is situated in our kitchen nook. The table is old and has perfectly weathered wood and guess what?! I scored it for FREE from a friend who was moving! I love its quirks and I love its charm, and I especially love when we sit down together here as a family and intentionally spend quality time together.
5 Elements for A Cozy Thanksgiving Table
When creating a cozy and beautiful table I love to use these 5 simple tricks.
Gather Natural Elements
If you visited my Fall Home Tour then you know I have been known to pull over and grab “natural elements” from the side of the road to use in my decor. Or scavenge around our yard for fresh clippings.
This table was no different.
I grabbed some fresh eucalyptus and fresh magnolia leaves from a bouquet that my sweet husband brought me as a surprise one morning from CC’s Flower Truck. I laid them on top of this linen runner my mom made and alternated the green and brown sides of the leaves.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and keep your eyes peeled for anything that could work for your table! Shockingly we have so many items all around us both inside and out that we sometime forget about. Using these “found or gathered” natural elements is a great way to save money!
Candles
I’m a sucker for candles. They bring a certain cozy and romantic element to any table! For this table I used a mixture of mercury glass votives in a variety of sizes. The little ones are Balsam and Cedar scented and have me dreaming of Christmas! My moto is the more the merrier. I also find that grouping them in groups of threes and in varying heights makes them more meaningful, and keeps them from getting lost on the table.
Faux Pumpkins and Florals
For a statement piece I added a fun faux pumpkin with a natural brown looking stem. I found it at Hobby Lobby years ago. Then I simply placed it on a brown transferware plate I picked up at my favorite local flea market, A & J Antiques. I sprinkled mini green velvet pumpkins and other small pumpkins down the center of the table. Faux fall colored button stems from Hobby Lobby were an easy addition around the plate and pumpkin.
Free Printable Place Cards
For that personal feel for your holiday or special occasion table, I have found that place cards add the perfect finishing touch. Last year I shared some beautiful free printable place cards with my subscribers and they were a huge hit. So guess what?! This year I have some gorgeous new ones. Actually, I have an entire Holiday Printables Bundle that not only includes several different place card options, but also some menu cards and gift tags!
Aren’t these place cards beautiful? I’ll let you in on a secret…I printed them off in several other colors like, red, white and on brown craft paper and they look just as gorgeous! They will be featured on our Christmas table and presents here real soon! 🙂
This bundle (shown below) will cover both your Christmas and Thanksgiving tablescape needs and can be easily printed at home. They are free to my subscribers and are in my printables library with several other free printables. You can subscribe HERE to gain access to them just in time for Thanksgiving! If you are already a subscriber (thank you!) the password is always in my Sunday emails!
Aren’t the menu cards just darling too? (just ignore my awful handwriting) I feel like once I added the place cards and menus to the tables it completed the entire look! Even my husband made comments about how cool they were when I finished putting it all together.
Affordable Place Settings
When creating any tablescape I always want to make it affordable, approachable and useable. For this cozy Thanksgiving table I used my everyday white plates, affordable gold flatware from Target and paper bowls. Yep, I found these brown and white Spode paper bowls at Home Goods! They actually look like real Spode china if you glance at them! The best part is they make clean up easy too. The wine glasses and green cotton napkins dress it all up!
