5 Valentine’s Day Gifts That Make a Difference
Hi friend, thank you for stopping by! It’s that time of year when love is in the air! Valentine’s Day is almost here and this year I really want to make it special. This year I want to be more intentional with how I am sharing the love. So I got together with my favorite sidekick (my mom) and together we came up with a beautiful tablescape showcasing 5 Valentine’s Day gifts that make a difference!
5 Valentine’s Day Gifts That Make a Difference
Today’s post is a special one because I am sharing all about a local campaign that is near and dear to my heart.
This Valentine’s Day why not focus on giving back, helping others and shopping fair trade? My mom and I decided that there was no better cause to shop with than the U COUNT Marketplace!
What is U COUNT?
Since January is National slavery and human prevention month I wanted to share U COUNT with you.
Via their website…U COUNT FIGHTS GLOBAL AND LOCAL TRAFFICKING THROUGH PREVENTION, AWARENESS, AND RESCUE. WE FIGHT TRAFFICKING ON THREE FRONTS: GLOBAL PROJECTS, LOCAL EFFORTS AND MARKETPLACE.
This wonderful organization brings women who have been rescued from trafficking together in community to help them learn skills that help them become economically self-reliant, furthering their journey to a life of hope and renewal.
The products they make are sold in the U COUNT Marketplace and today I am featuring several of my favorites. You can learn more about this amazing campaign by visiting ucountcampaign.org.
A Valentine’s Day Tablescape That Makes A Difference
Are you ready for some Valentine’s Day eye candy? We had so much fun creating a Valentine’s Day tablescape featuring some fabulous items from the U COUNT marketplace here in Fort Collins, Colorado.
While shopping for items to feature and share with you all we were captivated by all of the gorgeous colors available over at the U COUNT Marpetplace. We were also loving that fact that we were helping support trafficking victims on their road to recovery! As you can see it was the blues, pinks and reds that captured our hearts! The U COUNT Marketplace is know for their gorgeous assortment of colors and items from all over the world.
1.Kantha Quilts
Do you see that gorgeous light pink and blue runner going down the center of the table? This beautiful piece is actually a quilt!
That’s right. The U COUNT Marketplace has several different size quilts in multiple colors to choose from and the one featured here is a handmade small Kantha sari quilt. Below you can see a few more of our favorites! You can shop all “small” quilts by clicking the blue link ucountcampaign.org.
These make fabulous baby gifts, table runners, throw blankets, wall hangings and decor. BONUS: They also sell larger quilts that we also love to use around our home! You can shop those HERE.
2. Handmade Journals
At each place setting we set beautiful handmade paper journals made in Kolcata. There are two sizes, the three fold journals and the 2 fold journals.
Not only do these make fabulous and thoughtful Valentine’s Day gifts but gifts for any occasion! And don’t they look great on the table?
3. Handmade Placemats
I have personally been shopping at the U COUNT Marketplace for several years now, both on-line and in person, and I love how they are always adding new handmade items from women who have been rescued from trafficking.
Their latest additions just might be my favorite. These gorgeous handmade placemats are sold in sets of 6 for $30 and come in multiple colors.
I think they steal the show on our Valentine’s day tablescape! What do you think?
4. Handmade Stationery
Why not make your own Valentine’s from the beautiful handmade stationery offered at the U COUNT Marketplace? So many colors and designs to choose from. A gift that shares a story of hope!
5. Bags, Wallets and Clutches
Ok, these last items didn’t quite make it on our table but I couldn’t resist sharing them with you! They are the perfect Valentine’s Day gift idea to make a difference.
These are some of the most beautiful handmade bags I have seen in quite some time. The colors speak to my soul as does the mission they serve! These colorful handmade Vandana bags (above) are made from recycled sari quilts and available on-line here. These next items are part of the special LUM project and are made in Guatemala. You can read more about their story by visiting www.lumproject.com.
