Christmas in Colorado and Me

Welcome! Come on in and take a peek at our home all dressed up for Christmas! If you are visiting here for the first time, my name is Kelly and I live in beautiful Colorado. I’m a wife, mom, step-mom and kindergarten teacher. I pride myself on being able to update and upgrade our builder grade house into a Pinterest worthy home all in my spare time and on a tight budget! But honestly, I’m just a hot mess mama who needs Jesus and coffee every morning! Can you relate?

I Love Christmas

I have to just say that I absolutely love Christmas and love decorating for Christmas!  I put a lot of thought into my decor choices this year.  This year I decided to go with a red, black and white color scheme. Oh, and of course pops of green! My mom actually pointed out the fact that I already had a lot of black accents in my home. So going with a new color palette as opposed to last year’s pops of blue, was a lot easier for me than I had originally thought and I spent very little on new decor. (This made the hubs happy)

The black and white ribbon (from Hobby Lobby) you will see throughout our house and some new wreaths from Target’s Hearth and Hand collection by Magnolia were my only purchases! The rest I shopped my own house for!

Let’s get started…

Entry and Dining Room

As you walk in to our home you are greeted by my beloved pew. This is the pew that inspired this journey of blogging for me. You can read all about it HERE.

I wanted to bring some nature indoors this year and my friend Brooke from Brooklyn Finds Designs here in Colorado had these beautiful sticks in her booth at a local market and was gracious enough to give me some!

From our entry you walk into our dining room.  My dining room table is simple with a centerpiece of white ceramic houses from the Target dollar bins, black and white ribbon, candles and fresh greenery from our yard.

The mini wreaths are from the Target Heath and Hand collection by Magnolia.  I simply hung them by ribbon and hot glued the ribbon together to secure them to the chairs.

This sideboard across from our table is my favorite to style.  It showcases the fresh greenery from our yard and the larger version of the wreaths you saw on the backs of the dining chairs. You can shop the larger wreath here!

Family Room and Tree

Our ceilings are vaulted in our family room so a few years ago we purchased our tree from Balsam Hill during their after Christmas sale! If you are in the market for a new tree, their day after Christmas sale is usually well over 50% off their incredible trees. I love this one because the set up is easy and the branches look so real!

To mix things up this year I used this old tree crate that I found at a local vintage market to hold our tree and moved my child sized pew in from another room. The girls love to sit on it and read Christmas books.

This scroll from at Cottonwood Shanty was a birthday gift from my mom and dad last year (I’m a December baby) and it is still one of my all time favorite gifts! I love how it declares the good news of Christmas…the birth of Christ! The beautiful boxwood wreaths are real and from Trader Joe’s and were only $9.99.

Kitchen

Looking back in to our kitchen always makes me smile. It is the part of our home that my husband and I designed together.

Our dough bowl found it’s home on our island and I had fun filling it with a bunch of my favorite things, most of which are from Target. Some bottle brush trees, a stuffed Santa, letters to Santa box, JOY towel, and these darling little Santa Christmas appetizer plates!

Now over to the hot cocoa bar that holds my beloved Rae Dunn mugs and Santa mugs from World Market. I had fun adding this sign with one of my favorite Christmas songs. The O Holy Night sign is from Deann at Treasured Pearl Handmade and I love it!

I can’t forget the awesome sign above our kitchen nook…the simple black script with Merry Christmas makes my heart happy. My friend Jess has an Etsy shop called The Junq Drawer and she custom made it for me. You must check her out!

I thought I was pretty cute giving a shout out on my Hobby Lobby letter board to Jesus for His birthday. In our house He is the reason for the season!

Also, I’ll be honest, this clean kitchen might have lasted for only 30 seconds after I took these pictures. Because lets be real, I have four kids and nothing stays clean around here for very long!

Well that’s it for the tour of our downstairs! If you you pop back over in the next few weeks I will be sharing our master bedroom and porch decorated for Christmas as well. 1. Kelly, this is so beautiful! You have so many amazing touches but my favorites are the scroll and the mini wreaths. My Target must have totally sold out of those because I didn’t even know they are part of the hearth and hand line! Your color scheme is spot on and it totally makes sense to incorporate some black if you already have a lot of it. And by the way, your Christmas tree could be featured in a magazine – it’s so tall and handsome!!

Thank you so much for participating in this blog hop with me! Merry Christmas!!

  2. Kelly, your home is so lovely and you have made it shine with your Christmas decor. Just the right amount of red to really make it festive. The tree crate is fantastic! Merry Christmas to you!

  3. Kelly, what a cheerful Christmas space. The natural branches are a great addition ~ so organic and just right next to your pew. I’m an avid Target shopper, too. Love the crate with the tree. Again, the wood just adds to the natural elements so well. Happy to be on the Home for the Holidays Blog Hop with you.

    1. Hi Carol thank you so much for your kind words and for stopping by! I loved the natural elements too…and you can never go wrong with Target, right?! I am excited to see your tour!

  4. Love how you’ve decorated your home!! An item that caught my eye is the barn picture next to your ceramic canisters in the kitchen. How can I get my hands on one like that?

  5. I’m popping around on the blog tour, your blog is new to me. I have to say that I love the pops of color (red) in your decor. So many bloggers (I’ve been blogging for 10 years) do the trendy neutrals (blush and gold this year) but this color loving girl enjoys seeing color especially at Christmas!

I like your personal touches (Jesus IS the Reason for the Season), and the way your home feels like a real family lives in it!

    Merry Christmas!

    1. Wow Deanna thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to stop by! I am a color loving girl as well! I can’t wait to check out your blog too! Merry Christmas!

  6. So many beautiful details Kelly!! I adore that scroll, your JOY wall decor and all the pops of red throughout your home!! Not to mention your tree….stunning!! Truly a cozy, inviting space for your family to celebrate this season! Great job girl!

  7. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home! So many great ideas here! I will be checking back to see the other rooms.
Where are the SIP and CHILL bottles from?
    Thank you!

  8. The holidays are my favorite time of year simply for the decorations. I’m more excited to decorate my home for the season, than a kid is on actual Christmas morning. To me there’s no such thing as too many lights, or too much sparkle!!

  9. So nice to see someone on here from Colorado! I love our beautiful state. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and holiday decorations.
