Decorating With Blues For Christmas
This year I am decorating with blues for Christmas! I have once again partnered with JOANN to show you their incredible selection of Christmas decor and florals as well as share a few tree decorating tips in hopes that you will be inspired, encouraged and maybe even think a bit outside of the box as you decorate this year.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and yes, our tree is up and decorated!!! I am so excited to share it with you! This year I decided to go with a less traditional color scheme… I decided to go with a blue Christmas!

Decorating With Blues for Christmas
Like I mentioned above, this year when decorating our tree I wanted to do things differently. I wanted to start from scratch and I wanted to challenge myself to use my favorite color, blue.
Shopping at JOANN made this easy and doable. I mean, who doesn’t want to buy all new stuff to decorate their Christmas tree with? Usually this would be out of the question for me and most people. However, this year with some help from JOANN and their AMAZING sales and coupons I was able to start fresh and decorate my tree with all new pieces AND buy a few fun accessories all for $250! Crazy right?
Next, I will share how I decorated my tree from scratch using blues and mercury glass accents!
Step One: Pick A Fun New Color
First, pick your color! I went off of the same blue color scheme that I used on my mantel. I fell in love with the soft blue velvet ribbon and the mercury glass and sparkly accents all found at JOANN. We had so much fun shopping around the store and since I had a focus I was able to zero in quikly on what I needed.
Below is most of my haul! This picture doesn’t even include the blanket, clear ornaments and wrapping paper seen above that I also purchased!
Step Two: Start With The Floral Picks
First set up your tree and gather all of your supplies in one area. I like to start with the floral picks on my tree and spread them out.
I started with the Ivory Berry picks and then added the glittery eucalyptus right next to them for a greater impact. Remember to put them in at the same angle as your branches. I like to place them in the branches and then step back and see if I like where they are. The good news is that you can always move them around, right?
I got twelve bunches of the eucalyptus bush covered in champagne glitter, and six bunches of the short Ivory Berry picks and 6 long Ivory berry picks. The short ones do best at the top of the tree and the long ones do best at the wider parts of the tree.
After the floral picks I moved onto the large ornaments. I picked these up at JOANN because they were gold, glittery, pretty and very light weight. I tucked them in to large openings and closer to the base of my tree.
Step Three: More Ornaments
Next, I added the vintage drop ornaments and glitter pine cones. Finally, it was time for the gorgeous blue velvet ribbon! My mom is a ribbon pro so she stepped in and helped me. I love her method of twirling the ribbon and letting it fall naturally and then tucking it in to the tree. I also love how ribbon is so inexpensive yet makes a HUGE impact. This helps if you want to you can change up your ribbon each year for a new look on your tree! So simple!
Can you see the progress?
Step Four: Get The Kids Involved
I also wanted to get my kids involved in decorating the tree so we decided to make our own ornaments! JOANN has the best kid friendly and non-breakable ornaments sold in bulk! I bought the 20 pack of iridescent ones. Then I gathered up some blue nail polish, the girls, and we got to work creating these gorgeous ornaments that I feel totally complete the tree! I love how they turned out.
You can see the full tutorial on how we made these fun, blue kid friendly ornaments over on the JOANN app or by clicking here!
