How To Decorate A Rustic Christmas Mantel
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and for me, the Christmas magic is already flowing! This is our first Christmas in our new home and I am soaking it all up. I have been taking my time decorating each room for Christmas and enjoying every minute. Last week I shared Christmas in our dining room and today is our fireplace and mantel. I will be sharing how to decorate a rustic Christmas mantel.

How To Decorate A Rustic Christmas Mantel
Like I mentioned above this is our first Christmas in this home. If you are new around here I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I love that I get to celebrate my birthday in the same month as Jesus! (I was born on the 22nd & brought home in a stocking!) So I sometimes go a bit overboard!
So decorating our mantel for Christmas felt just a little bit more special. When we looked at this house I fell in love with the rustic wooden beam that hangs over the fireplace and so did my husband. I might have even dreamed about how I would decorate it for Christmas…even though it was August! 🙂
It’s stunning and add so much character to this space and I remember thinking, I couldn’t wait to decorate her for Christmas!
And finally it’s time!
The first thing I did to decorate our rustic mantel was pull out my favorite faux garland. I used two strands in total. It’s the Norfolk Pine real touch garland from Alroal.com and it is truly amazing! I will link it here but I have to warn you, it sells out most years in early October. So if you want to grab some for next Christmas I would make sure to start looking in July!
Finding That Perfect Rustic Focal Point
After the greenery I knew I wanted something unique for the center of the mantel. I layered a few of my grandmother’s vintage mirrors and it was very pretty but missing something. I remembered that my mom had bought a large metal reindeer at an after Christmas sale last year. She was SO kind to let me try it out on my mantel. It was just the focal point this mantel needed to make it special.
Isn’t it so charming? It will transition into winter beautifully!
The deer was a bit bare by herself so I added a pinecone wreath to hang around her neck. I tried a few other ones but they were all too bulky. The pinecones didn’t have much color so I added a few berry sprigs. I love how it turned out!
How To Choose Accessories for A Rustic Christmas Mantel
I don’t know about you but adding the accessories is always the fun part! My mom was over when I was working on the mantel and it was fun getting her opinion and ideas. We would add something, take it away, add it back and change it all within a 5 minute span. It seems to be how I roll these days!
We started with the books. I love decorating with books and always use books in my décor. It was fun to use all green books on the mantel. I love how they pop.
I’m also all about the symmetry if you haven’t figured that out by now! Ha! The symmetry of the trees, books and mirrors makes my heart happy. The final touch were these darling plaid stockings I found from the small shop, With Lavender and Grace. They are so well made and the plaid is just beautiful!
I wanted to keep the base of the fireplace clutter free so I rounded up 3 glass hurricanes that I had in storage. The two smaller ones are from IKEA and the larger one was a wedding gift. The candles inside are battery operated and from Walmart!
Enjoying Our Rustic Christmas Mantel
So far we have been enjoying our mantel all dressed up for Christmas. Each night I love turning on the fairy lights!
We currently have white birch logs in the base of the fireplace because we need to get it cleaned as well as have a few cracks sealed. I have been so busy but hope to get it done soon because I just know it will be magical with a real fire. For now I will enjoy the fairy lights I weaved through the garland!
