The Perfect Christmas Porch in 3 Easy Steps
Today I want to welcome you to our front porch and show you how to create The Perfect Christmas Porch in 3 Easy Steps!
But first… It’s that time of year for blog hops and once again I have joined up with 11 other talented bloggers to share our favorite rooms all dressed up for Christmas. You can find the links to their rooms at the bottom of my post. If you missed my post from last week featuring the inside of our home you can see what this year’s Christmas home tour looked like by clicking HERE.
If you are visiting from Tara over at Pennies From Heaven Home , thanks for stopping by and welcome! Isn’t her dining room just perfect?
My Favorite Room
My favorite room is of course our porch! Here in Colorado the weather hasn’t felt very “Christmasey” lately…its been in the high 60’s for the past couple of weeks. However, I’m not complaining and it hasn’t stopped me from doing what I love, decorating!
As some of you know our porch holds my beloved pew, Ms. Fanny (yes, I named her!) and she is my absolute favorite thing to decorate in our home. So you can imagine how excited I was to get my hands on her for her first Christmas on our porch!
Once I started getting her all ready I thought it might be fun to share my thought process with you all and the steps I took to make her perfect and ready for Christmas! I hope you will find some of my tips helpful.
Step One: Greenery Fresh and Faux
I always love to use garland when decorating my porch. However, my favorite trick to keep the garland affordable and pretty is to use faux garland with natural elements added to it. I have had my outdoor faux garland for several years now (It’s from Bed Bath and Beyond) and I’ll be honest, it’s rather thin and puny. So in order to “plump” it up I went on a bit of a scavenger hunt around our yard. And guess what I saved a whole lot of money…
The end result was finding some Juniper bushes growing through our fence from our neighbor’s yard (thanks Megan and Andrew) and a Boxwood bush in our front yard. Both evergreens are some of the best for adding touches of fresh greenery to decor. The juniper bushes have these gorgeous berries that have a tint of blue to them and the boxwood leaves are the perfect shade of green.
All I do is tuck the greenery into my faux garland. Sometimes I secure it with floral wire if need be! That’s it, just tuck and keep adding and boom…instant luscious garland! Extra tip– if you aren’t able to find any greenery around your yard the Home Depot always gives away the clippings from their Christmas trees for FREE!
You will also notice that I have some real garland on the pew from Trader Joe’s and a mini Christmas tree from our local grocery and a large real tree from ACE Hardware. I just had to have a real tree since our tree inside is faux.
Step Two: Pick Accessories and Shop Your Home
If you have visited my blog before you know I am all about shopping your own home. Not only does this save money but it saves time! For our porch all I really did was do some rearranging. I left the crocheted blanket from our Fall porch and added the red truck pillow to it that I got last year. (The pillow is from Craftberry Bush) The finishing touch was the Trader Joe’s garland for only $6.99.
The beautiful white and red Believe sign is from a new local shop called Rod Works. I was able to visit them last week before they opened and let’s just say I’m pretty sure I will be spending a lot of time there! Click the blue link above to take a peek at this amazing store.
Don’t you just love the old green and white bee box? I filled it with birch logs, fresh greenery from the yard and the black lantern that always lives on our porch. The wreath hanging above the pew was a gift that was given to my husband at work. It smells amazing!
Here is a close up of the lantern. I tucked a little white house from the Target dollar bins inside the lantern and surrounded it with greens.
Step Three: Lights of Course
If you haven’t figured out by now I am a Christmas loving girl! I think it has to do with my birthday being three days before Christmas and my middle name being Noel. Plus, I absolutely love that this holiday focuses on the birth of Jesus! All this to say I really feel like Christmas lights are basically the icing on the cake! Or should I say the tree? 🙂
Plus they have that magical feeling about them especially as the sun goes down!
Thank you so much for stopping by the blog and our porch! I hope you found my steps and tips helpful and please leave me a comment below if you have any questions! I always love to chat. 🙂
Next up on this favorite rooms blog hop is Hayley from A House With Books. Today she is sharing her Christmas living room and you don’t want to miss it!
I hope you all have a blessed week! I will be back again soon to share our Christmas bedroom and our hot coca station. Like I said before, I just can’t get enough of Christmas!
