Today I am joining the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Tour series hosted by Krista of The Happy Housie. If you are popping over from, Danielle of Finding Silver Pennies, welcome! Isn’t her coastal New England home just stunning? At the end of my tour I have linked all of the other beautiful tours for you to enjoy as well!
Red, White and Blue Decorating Ideas For Summer
If you are new here, welcome! I’m Kelly and I live in a builder grade home in Colorado (not a farmhouse :)) where I am striving daily to be real, open and authentic with how I decorate my home. I’m a mom, step-mom and dog mom who is married to my best friend! In my spare time I teach kindergarten, hunt for finds at flea markets, garden, golf, and dream of living at the beach someday.
Honestly, I’m a hot mess who needs Jesus and coffee every day…maybe you can you relate?
Enough about me…let’s move on to the tour!
Today I will be showing you around our main level which includes our entryway, dining room, family room and a peek into our kitchen as well. Along the way I will be sharing some red, white, and blue easy decorating ideas for summer. And many, many pictures!
So let’s get started!
Let’s Tour Our Entry
The pew that you see when when you enter our home is the namesake for my blog. After loving her for several years I recently gave her a weathered driftwood makeover and now I love her even more. We also did a fun tile makeover for her to sit on and it’s such a fun way to welcome guests to our home!
My other pew lives on our front porch.
As you peek through this alcove you can start to see some touches of red, white, and blue decor.
Here is a better look at the makeover we did with the tiled doormat. Pretty fun, huh?!

Now lets make our way into the dining room.
Our Dining Room
As you enter our dining room you can’t help but notice this gorgeous hutch I scored from a local consignment shop. I always have fun restyling her.
My husband actually scored her for me while I was away at a blogging conference. He is a keeper!
Do you remember this DIY blue hydrangea wreath? All I did was add some dollar store flags to it and ..boom! Instant patriotic summer decor!
A few more flags in my All- American baseball dough bowl centerpiece… and I called it good for a splash of red, white, and blue here on my table!
Shop Our Dining Room
As you leave our dining room you come to my no-sew recovered bench that holds all of our shoes currently. This it what it looks like at our house since we have a new puppy who likes to eat shoes. Those Vans are in trouble but at least my magazines are safe!
Let’s Tour The Family Room
Okay, we finally made it to the room I am most excited about!!!
If you follow me over on Instagram you know I have been hinting about some changes I have made in here recently. Well if you hadn’t already guessed I changed out my white IKEA curtains for these blue patterned linen curtains from Amazon! Two panels come in one pack for only $40!! Oh yes!
What do you think of them?
I’m in love with the colorful cottage vibe they give the room. I also traded out the dark brown rods I had for these brass ball rods from Target and the brass curtain rings! I wanted the Pottery Barn brass rods but they were out of my budget. So thankful that Target always has something in my budget. I ordered them on-line just like the curtains.
Once I had my blue curtains I was able to add touches or red and white with art, quilts, baseballs, flowers, pillows, books and accessories! I love how these summer colors pop against my favorite boxwood dresser and vintage green shutters!
The best part is the only new things I bought for this summer tour were the curtains and curtain rods. Not too bad, eh?
Shop Our Family Room
I found this sign over on Instagram from Georgia Maes Vintage Market with this L. R. Knost quote and instantly knew I needed it. Seems very fitting for all that we have encountered so far in 2020.
I can’t get enough of how bright this room feels now. I seriously smile every time I come in. Such a big difference for such a little price. Yes please!
The dogs enjoy it as well. Our new cairn terrier puppy Zoey will sleep anywhere but she especially loves this room.
While our wheaten terrier Kona prefers our Pottery Barn sofa. Mostly to escape Zoey who can’t make it up on the sofa!
I floated some of my red knockout roses in this gorgeous blue and white bowl from Home Goods. You might remember it from when I shared my paper whites in it this past winter.
My lovely mother let me borrow the quilt you see under my wicker demijohns as well as the red and white quilt on our sofa. Their colorful vintage vibe is just what this space needed.
Another view of our family room.
Finally…The Kitchen
The last stop on our summer home tour is our kitchen. Here is a peek back at it from the family room.I love the open concept we have between these two rooms.
I borrowed some aspen leaves from our yard for a fresh pop of green in another pretty blue and white jar.
Zoey was napping while I was taking pictures but always seemed to follow me and find a new spot right where I was each time. She adds some definite cuteness to my pictures!
Can you spot our new dog food zone?
Over on the table I had fun with setting a tray up with more red, white and blue summer decor that is actually useful!
Shop Our Kitchen
And now for a final look back at our family room from our kitchen. Just because I still love the new look of the curtains so much!

First of all Kona and Zoey are so adorable. Zoey curled up on the floor melts my heart. I really enjoyed your beautiful tour, it is perfect for summer.
Thank you so much Julia! I agree, the dogs are pretty cute and a part of our lives so it seems only fitting that they should be in the photos! Thanks for popping in:)
Love it – your colour scheme is so fun for the summer! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a full tour of your home before – it looks great. So many fab little vignettes and pieces!
Thank you Krista! Yes, I took a lot of pictures this time! Ha! I had a lot of fun decorating for summer. I appreciate you stopping by!
I absolutely adore all of your red, white, and blue touches, Kelly! And Zoey certainly ups the cuteness factor. 😉
Thank you Jen! These colors just feel like summer to me!
I love all your red, white, and blue. The family room looks so fantastic and I LOVE that quote. Oh my goodness, that sweet puppy. I would be getting nothing done if I was at your house right now!!! So cute!
Thank you Danielle! You are right…I can barely get anything done. Thankfully my 11 year old is helping out and the hubs when he is home. Happy Summer friend!
Your home is beautiful Kelly! Thank you so much for having me this week! I really enjoyed blogging with you ladies. xoxo
Stacy we loved having you and thank you so much! Love that I made a new blogging friend!
Like!! Thank you for publishing this awesome article.
Thank you so much!
I love all your red, white and blue touches throughout. And those baseballs! Adorable! Your white and green dressers are so gorgeous Kelly!
Thank you Kim! Those baseballs always seem to make an appearance once summer rolls around! Thanks for your kind words and for popping over!
Just wondering , where did you get all those basebals?
They are expensive in the stores, especially so many of th them!!
Thanks,
Mona
Hi Mona!
A majority of the baseball we have we collected at Spring Training in Arizona over several years. Both of my step-sons and my husband played baseball so we have just accumulated them. I figured they were perfect for summer decorating!
